Beyond The Basics

Proven Strategies for a Student-focused Approach to OT & PT Assessment and Service Delivery within a Collaborative Team Model

In the rapidly changing world of education, occupational and physical therapy services continue to play a critical role in special education and student success. With increased emphasis on work load, functional assessment and data driven decision making, it is important for us to make some shifts in how we implement service delivery and implement an evidence-based practice.

This course will offer practical strategies and tools for areas of school-based practice that are the hot topics across the country. You will gain valuable information and language necessary to be a strong advocate for your students and for your active involvement in the development of a collaborative team process. In addition, you will take with you checklists, forms and strategies for functional assessment in the educational setting as well as tools for collecting meaningful data to facilitate decisions related to OT and PT service delivery. Learn about best practice considerations for therapy documentation and important information regarding risk management related to the use of adaptive equipment, due process and Medicaid audits.

Throughout the day, therapists interact with the presenter, discussing practical application of presented information that can be used immediately with your teams. Therapists will receive specific tools for collection of meaningful data and strategies to enhance your student’s performance in the least restrictive environment as defined by IDEA.
